SPRING 2006 COMMENCEMENT NOTICE

TO: Summer 2005, Fall 2005, and Spring 2006 Graduates
FROM: George Higa, Chairman, KCC Commencement Committee

SUBJECT: Commencement Ceremony at Kapi’olani Community College on May 12, 2006 (Friday) at 6:00 p.m.

Participants, please follow these instructions carefully:

June 15, 2005 (Summer)
October 15, 2005 (Fall)
March 15, 2006 (Spring)

The above dates are the deadlines for graduation applications. Students who do not submit their applications by these deadlines may not have their names printed in the KCC Commencement Program.

April 3-28, 2006

Report to the KCC Bookstore to buy your monarch blue cap, gown, tassel, collar (for women), and pick up formal graduation invitations. Cost for cap and gown is $ 26.00 (subject to change).

Commencement Pre-Ceremony Preparation

Procedures:

  • The commencement processional will start promptly at 6:00 PM
  • Come dressed for the ceremony and be sure to bring your cap and gown with you as you will not have time to go back to your car and get it
  • Report on-campus to the ‘Ohi’a cafeteria no later than 5:00 PM
  • Upon arrival at the ‘Ohi’a cafeteria, check-in at the Graduate Registration desk by your last name
    • Pick-up your name card and be sure your name is spelled correctly. We will use this card to call your name as you step forward to receive your diploma so be sure to hang on to it.
    • Pick-up your honor cord if you are eligible (with a 3.5 or higher KCC cumulative GPA) at the Graduate Registration station. Phi Theta Kappans, please check with the Phi Theta Kappa advisor if you are eligible for an honors stole and tassel before the day of graduation.
  • After you check into the Ohia cafeteria, gather by the table sign that designates your academic major.
  • Relax, visit with your class mates and enjoy the refreshments provided by KCC.
  • An informational session will be conducted and we will go over the ceremony.
    • Introduction of the graduation marshals
    • Introduction of the representative of the Class of 2006 Co-Valedictorians
    • The graduation ceremony program schedule
    • The processional (marching onto the graduation stage)
    • Seating
    • Receiving your diploma
    • The Recessional (leaving the graduation stage after the Royal Hawaiian Band plays the recessional song)
    • Greeting by your family and friends on the Central Mall Lawn.

May 12, 2006: 5:00 pm

Report promptly with your cap and gown to the ‘Ohia Cafeteria for graduation ceremony instructions. Once you enter, you must remain inside the ‘Ohia cafeteria. No family or children are allowed in the Ohia cafeteria because of space limitation. Your cooperation is appreciated.

For Women: As you will be walking up stage risers in the processional, please select your dress length and heels accordingly.

N.B. There is no secure area to check-in your handbags, so please plan accordingly.

For Men: Wear solid-colored shirts (ties are nice), dark trousers, socks, and dress shoes.

5:00 pm

Seating of guests on limited number of folding chairs on the Central Mall Lawn begins at this time.

6:00 pm

Processional (ceremony begins).

7:30 pm

Recessional of graduates out onto the perimeter of the Central Mall Lawn to find and standby their surname-alpha placards to enable family and friends to find you after exiting the graduation stage.
