Why
can't you accept my Driver's license/State I.D. or other forms of identification
as permission to use the labs?
The requirement of needing your registration slip or current library card
(or equivalent for those students attending other campuses) to use a computer
is to restrict access of the computer labs to students who are currently
enrolled in Kapiolani or any other UH campus. Although it is used to prove
your identity for security purposes, it is mainly used to identify your
current affiliation with UH.

What
exactly is "non-educational material" and what is your policy
regulating its use?
Non-educational material applies to all files, programs and activities
that do not pertain to education. This includes computer games of any
kind, multimedia (i.e. cds), social chat rooms, and pornography. Any users
found utilizing such materials will be issued two warnings. Failure to
abide by these warnings will result in banning the user from further use
of the computer labs. Lab users wanting to do academic work will have
priority of those viewing recreational material. Recreational material
includes personal e-mail and web browsing other than for research purposes.

What
are the consequences for violating any of the stated regulations for conduct
in the computer labs?
Any user that has violated one of the regulations will be given a warning
for his/her first two offenses. If the user then commits a third offense,
the user will be banned from further use of the computer labs.

Can
you teach me how to use computers and computer programs?
The lab monitors will assist you in any problem that may occur with the
computer and its programs to the best of his/her knowledge. Lab monitors
are not responsible for teaching or doing your assignment. There are some
computer programs or functions that a monitor may not be familiar with,
despite its availability in the computer labs. Monitors will NOT do your
homework assignments for you.

Why
does the computer freeze and what can I do?
Sometimes internal errors occur that causes the computer to stop its activity.
These computers take a lot of abuse and sometimes they may not work properly.
If an error message occurs while you are working on the computer, immediately
seek assistance from a monitor on duty. Do not cancel the message until
the monitor has looked over it. To ensure that you do not lose your work,
save it to your 3.5" floppy every 5 minutes.

Why
do the files I saved on the hard-drive end up missing sometimes?
The lab removes all files saved to the hard-drive. However, since the
drive is accessible to the rest of our users, other users can manipulate
or erase your file. To avoid these complications we ask that you save
all of your work to a 3.5" floppy and not the hard-drive.

Where
can I get 3.5" floppy disks?
The labs DO NOT PROVIDE MATERIALS such as floppy disks to students. It
is the students' duty to be prepared for whatever work he/she wants accomplished.
You can however purchase these items at the Book Store, located at OHIA
118.

I've
sent my print job but nothing is happening, what do I do?
Contact an on duty lab monitor when your print job does not come out correctly
or not at all. DO NOT SEND IT AGAIN. This only jams the printer further.

What
can I do about other users who disrupt my work in the labs?
A user may contact an on duty monitor about another user or users that
are being disruptive. They will be asked to stop any disruptive behavior
on their part. If the users in question are also violating lab policies,
these users are also subject to further consequences. Any user alerting
the monitor concerning disruptive behavior will remain anonymous.
